Wave Motion awarded $1.6 million in Army Direct to Phase II SBIR!

Wave Motion Launch Corporation has been awarded a Direct to Phase II SBIR contract, under the Pacific Open Topic, Topic Number: A234-P010 from the U.S. Army to further development of its Jet Gun technology. Wave Motion will be working with the U.S. Army DEVCOM Armaments Center to prototype and test a version of the Jet Gun that can be used in tactical indirect fires applications. The total amount awarded to Wave Motion is just under $1.6 million.

Wave Motion was given the opportunity to submit a proposal for the Direct to Phase II award as a result of being named a winner in the Army’s XTech Pacific competition in support of US Army Pacific (USARPAC). The theme of the competition was “conquering the tyranny of distance,” a challenge which the Jet Gun was able to solve due to its ability to launch a variety of payloads without being constrained to a particular caliber, unlike other weapons which depend on a particular ammunition supply chain. This gives the Jet Gun a unique advantage in logistically-compromised environments where one type of ammunition may not be available.

Wave Motion’s COO Dr. James Penna traveled to Honolulu, Hawaii in September of 2023 to deliver the presentation for the final round, bringing with him a prototype of the Jet Gun of the same energy scale proposed for the SBIR that Wave Motion fabricated and test fired in-house.
